Minus18: Australia’s charity improving the lives of LGBTQIA+ young people.
This July we’re excited to support Minus18 as our charity of choice for our monthly donation program.
At ProQuest we recognised the opportunity to do more to champion equality and diversity in the LGBTQIA+ space.
Minus18 does just that by transforming awareness into action through education and advocacy, providing LGBTQIA+ workplace inclusion training, professional development resources and digital campaigns. They also create safe spaces where youth can come together to make friends, feel included and thrive and equip young people with the skills and opportunities they need to be at the forefront of driving change.
Becoming an ally means actively supporting and advocating for the equal treatment of all communities. Here are some ways to be an effective ally:
- Don't tolerate disrespect: Call out hurtful language or jokes.
- Respect pronouns: Ask and use the correct pronouns.
- Be patient: Support those searching for their gender identity.
- Use gender-neutral language: Embrace inclusive terms like “hi friends” instead of “hi guys”.
