Cooking with OzHarvest: ProQuest’s 2016 Christmas Party
This year at ProQuest Consulting, we wanted to do something a bit different for our Christmas Party. We know how fun boozy dinners can be, but instead of waking up with a headache, we wanted to do something that we could feel good about – long after the party.
Did you know that Australians throw out $8 to $10 billion of food every year? Food loss and waste amount to a major squandering of resources and needlessly produce greenhouse gas emissions. We were shocked by how much food is wasted globally, and when we heard about OzHarvest, we knew we wanted to get involved. OzHarvest is the first perishable food rescue organisation in Australia that collects quality excess food and delivers it to more than 900 charities. They are on a mission to fight hunger and ‘nourish the country’ – and we couldn’t be more proud to support their cause.
For our Christmas party this year, we took part in OzHarvest’s Cooking for a Cause program. Local chefs worked one-on-one with our team and showed us how to make delicious meals out of food they rescued from local commercial outlets. Our team learned how to make zucchini fritters, homemade pasta, Turkish flatbread, bread and butter pudding and more!
It was a great team-building exercise, and together we were able to provide dinner to 80 homeless people in Sydney. Now that is what Christmas is all about.
Thanks again to OzHarvest for the great night!
