Rice Paper Scissors

Rice Paper Scissors offers excellent Asian cuisine with a mixture of Thai, Vietnamese, and Malaysian dishes, including a great range of vegetarian and vegan options. The place has great atmosphere and serving sizes are just right. A banquet option is also available depending on the size of the group which allows you to try out almost everything on the menu at an affordable price. I took the Sydney ProQuest team here when they were visiting, and they loved it!

Pizza Pizza Pizza

Cuisine: Pizza/Secret bar
Where: 16 Meyers Pl, Melbourne VIC 3000
What to order: Original Margherita

The closest thing to a New York Style pizza in Melbourne. The best thing to do is to grab a takeway pizza by slices and hang around outside the shop, situated in the back alleys as you devour the pizza. The main entrance looks like small Pizza takeaway with a narrow entrance and neon lights luminating the shop. However, if you walk in and go beyond the black curtain at the back, you will find a dimly lit bar with speciality cocktails! It’s a great place to grab a quick bite to eat after drinks on a Friday night. There’s nothing better than standing around in a back alley eating pizza!

Dodee Paidang

Cuisine: Thai Street food
Where: Basement/353 Little Collins St, Melbourne VIC 3000
What to order: Pad Kee Mow

Dodee Paidang easily do the best Thai food in Melbourne, the food is incredible! I love the street food atmosphere of the place and have never left this place still feeling hungry.  Dodee Paidang is situated at the basement in one of Melbourne’s renowned laneways. On Friday nights, the line would stretches all the way out to the streets! (Note that online bookings are not available!) You feel like you have been transported to the streets of Thailand as you make your way down to the basement level. The food serving sizes are huge and very affordable! However, a word of caution, if you can’t handle spice, make sure to let the waiter know 😉

Sezar

Cuisine: Middle Eastern
Where: 6 Melbourne Pl, Melbourne VIC 3000
What to order: Group Banquet or the Slow Cooked Lamb Shoulder

This is a great place to dine for special occasions. I recently went with friends visiting Melbourne and it was an amazing experience! This is the most expensive place on my list but it’s worth every penny. Its inconspicuously hidden in another one of Melbourne’s laneways with only an understated logo to let you know you are at the right place. They serve delicious modern Middle Eastern cuisine in a fancy yet accommodating dining room. In larger groups, you will need to order the banquet which is a 5 course meal plus desert, allowing to taste a variety of different dishes – you won’t be disappointed!
